Welcome to the Gilbert Murray Trust website

The GILBERT MURRAY TRUST was founded in 1956 by subscriptions from a large number of people who felt that their lives and those of others had been affected for good by Gilbert Murray’s long life of activity and scholarship in the fields of Classical Studies and International Affairs.

The Trust seeks to further the work of Gilbert Murray through awards made each year by its committees in two separate areas:

For examples of projects supported by the Gilbert Murray Trust, see recent award reports.

The Trust also runs a triennial lecture series designed to bring to public attention the continuing importance of Gilbert Murray’s advocacy of Internationalism and Classics in the modern world.

The fifth lecture in the series was delivered by poet, critic and translator A.E. Stallings at the Kelvin Hall Lecture Theatre, Glasgow, on Thursday 6th October 2022.
